The refrigerant cycle in the Jaguar air conditioning system involves a three-step process that includes pressurization, condensation, and vaporization. In the Jaguar air conditioning system, the refrigerant is the transfer medium used to absorb the heat inside the passenger compartment and release it to the outside air. The refrigerant is an unscented gas with the capacity to change state rapidly within a particular temperature range. Not only that, it is also oil soluble and non-corrosive.
The power unit of the Jaguars’ air conditioning system is known as the compressor. The Jaguar compressor is powered by a drive belt which is connected to the engine’s crankshaft. At the point in time when the air conditioning system is turned on, it is the compressor which pumps out refrigerant vapor under high pressure and high heat to the condenser.
In the next step, a device known as the condenser, changes the high-pressure refrigerant vapor to a liquid. The condenser is very similar looking to the radiator and is mounted in front of the engine’s radiator. It has parallel tubing and tiny cooling fins. As the Jaguar continues to move, the air flowing through the condenser removes the heat from the refrigerant, changing it to a liquid state.
Subsequently, the refrigerant moves to the receiver-drier which is the storage tank for the liquid refrigerant. Here, the moisture is also removed from the refrigerant. The moisture has to be removed as moisture in the air conditioning system can freeze causing blockage. Continuous pressurizing of the system by the compressor and the liquid refrigerant under high-pressure gets circulated from the receiver-drier to the thermostatic expansion valve. What the valve does is remove pressure from the liquid refrigerant so that it can expand and transform into refrigerant vapor in the evaporator. The evaporator too, is very similar to the condenser. Made up of tubes and fins it is usually mounted inside the passenger compartment. The cold low-pressure refrigerant is released into the evaporator. As it is released it vaporizes and absorbs heat from the air in the passenger compartment. The cool air is now available for the passengers as the heat has been absorbed. The cool air is now distributed with the help of a blower fan.
