There were two types of automatic transmissions used by Chrysler. One was used in cars and minivans known as the Ultradrive or A-604, which ultimately came to be called by names such as 41TE. The other was used in trucks known as A 500 and A 518. The torque converter lockup in the Chrysler automatic transmission locks the engine physically to the transmission. By preventing the power to be conducted through liquid it eliminates the losses from the torque converter, thereby improving gas mileage and power. The transmission fluid temperature is also reduced resulting in longer transmission life. At a pretty constant speed or throttle position, it will stay locked up until the throttle is let off or more power is needed. Once the throttle is let off, it will quickly unlock the converter so that the engine can save gas.
In the case of Chrysler four-speed automatic transmission, the first gear delivers maximum torque and minimum speed for starting. Fourth gear allows maximum speed with minimum torque. The Chrysler rebuilt automatic transmission contains mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems. The automatic transmission ensures that there is a ratio change in the engine speed and the wheels according to the various combinations. Through a pair of reduction gear sets, the first gear coordinates the engine power to the drive wheels. This enables it to give increased power and reduced wheel speed when the car first begins to move. At this point in time the engine turns much faster than the output shaft, at around a 4:1 ratio. To obtain intermediate speeds the gear ratio is brought closer to 1:1.
The Chrysler rebuilt automatic transmission needs lubrication so that the gears and shafts keep running smoothly. By filling the transmission housing partially with transmission gear oil this lubrication can be achieved. This is done by the spinning of the gear gears by flinging the fluid around and lubricating all of the parts. The seals found at the front and rear prevents the fluid from leaking out of the housing.
In Chrysler rebuilt automatic transmissions, also called overhauled transmissions, the transmission is completely disassembled after being removed from the vehicle. The parts are cleaned in a special cleaning solution. The worn and damaged parts are replaced.
Our Chrysler rebuilt automatic transmissions are remanufactured to meet or exceed the manufacturer's original equipment specifications. Our rebuilt and remanufactured Chrysler automatic transmissions improve torque performance and provide more horsepower.
